18C Season Report
The season started off a bit shaky going from undefeated to a loss and a draw. As time went on the weather improved and we could train.
The team started to pick up form and made it to second on the table. We played well, beating Lilli Pilli 8-1 and St Pats 2 6-2, both of which we ended up losing to later in the season. Consistency wasn’t our strong suit. After 3 draws to Como the semi finals were around the corner.
Semi-Finals
The Engadine El Classico. Crusaders Vs Eagles. Having only played Crusaders once and losing we didn’t care, we were confident coming into the game and it showed. We played good ball, everyone having one of their best games. Crusaders scored first to make it 0-1 going into half time. Second half was better for us with Harry scoring to make it 1-1. Soon came extra time where Harry would score again to make it 2-1. The second half was a cluster. Matt threw up and got subbed off leaving people wondering what was happening with formation. Everyone was nervous. Will got bodied and the whistle blew. We won and were through to the final.
Grand Final
Cold, rainy and windy: perfect conditions for a final. We only played St Pats once in a very unconvincing win 2-1. We also changed formation, having one of our centre backs push a bit further up the pitch.
Game kicks off and not too long after that they score the first goal of the game. Max wins a penalty, pretty good considering he had gotten a bad injury in the semi. Matt, the pen merchant, steps up to the spot and shoots bottom left corner, the keeper gets a hand to it but it wasn’t enough to keep it out. St Pats score a nice goal to go ahead. The forwards were desperate to score to keep their team in it, with Harry scoring a scrappy goal to equalise 2-2. After a few missed chances, on came extra time. In the first half St Pats whipped in a high cross and no one was there to mark the attacker, he heads the ball in off the crossbar to score the winner.
