Presidents Report 2020
Dave Henson
Well what a year, one like no other. Let us hope we get some normality back next year with a full season.
Firstly, I would like to mention what an honour it is to be President of this great club. It can be a tough and demanding job at times but when you have a fantastic committee like our club has it makes my job as well as the Executive Committee’s job a great deal easier. So in saying that Col, Gav, Mick, Bec and Scott thanks for your support plus the General committee great effort.
Thank you to all the players and parents that registered with our club this year. The season started off so promising but unfortunately, we had the 2 month break which shortened our season to 13 weeks. We have had limited questions in regard to refunds for the shortened season which I appreciate as our goal was to get the players on the park and sort out the financial side after the season. There will be rebates for existing players that sign up to play with us next year.
To all the volunteers that coached and managed this year, well done. It is a tough job sometimes but your efforts do not go unlooked by our club, so thank you.
This season almost did not happen as 21 of the 26 clubs in our association did not want to start the season, we were not one of them as we wanted our players to play with social distancing in mind. The SSFA has to be commended for their efforts in getting the approvals from many organisations to be able to get the season running, they had many hoops to jump but never let this faze them.
Unfortunately, you would now all be aware that we have not been able to hold our annual presentations due to the social distancing rules. We are sorry for this and those players that are due to receive participation awards these will be handed out at next year’s presentations so you will not be forgotten.
There has be 1 major participation milestone this year and it belongs to our former President Greg (Bozo) Brosens. Greg has played 50 years straight at our club and would have received his 50 year award but will now have to wait till next year. Not only did Greg play his 50 years at our club he has also been on our committee for 24 years and served as President for 9 of those. Well done Bozo a great achievement and well deserved.
This year we had 1020 registered players, play in 84 teams. This made us the 5th biggest club in the Sutherland Shire. We had 375 female players sign up this year playing in 30 teams. As this is a multi sex sport it is great to see the participation levels of the females keep growing. We are also the only club in the Association that filled a team in every age group possible for male and females.
We also had our Nursery Squad playing training again this year with 42 participants. Thanks to all the parents that brought their kids down. I am sure they had a good time learning the skills of Soccer. If they are eligible to play U6’s next year I hope to see them back at the Eagles.
To our Sponsors, thanks for supporting our club again. Even in the hard times we have had you were still willing to help out.
