Presidents Report 2022
Marty Manns
Hi Members,
2022 was the beginning of our return to normality after 2 years impacted by COVID 19 interruptions. As a committee, we were prepared and poised to return all our members back to the regular routine of winter sport that a SSFA season can provide. But unfortunately, we were met by our next challenge…La Nina!
What ensued was a heavily interrupted season with rain events, limiting our game and training time, right up to Grand Final Day! The club understands that this again caused much frustration amongst our members, and we are deeply grateful for the level of understanding shown by most at the club.
We hope that all our members were able to survive to rain events safely and mostly unaffected.
We were able to maintain our standing as one of the biggest clubs in the Sutherland Shire with over 950 players, and countless volunteering parents and caregivers ensuring our club could function each and every available playing week. To our many sponsors, thanks for the support again, especially our Gold sponsors, Club Engadine, Bob and Ben the Tree men, Renxtend Pools. You can find all our sponsors contact details on our website www.engadineeagles.net
Our Nursery squad continued to grow this year with approximately 80 participants. Glen Tonna again deserves massive praise for putting his hand up for this and making it an enjoyable and educating experience for the next generation of junior Eagles.
As with every season, our Roo ball refs have stood up to be counted to enable our younger playing members to enjoy our great game. The entire committee thank you for doing a great job week after week.
To our executive committee, Col, Gav, Mick, Bec and Scott. In my first year as President, the support provide you all has been invaluable, and I thank you for every moment you have assisting our great club in operating this season. The entire club is very lucky to have individuals like yourselves involved. To the rest of the committee, thanks for the effort put in throughout the whole season. It is mostly a thankless role, but I personally thank each of you, because without you…we could simply not function.
Dana and Kel running the canteen behind the scenes, you don’t get many accolades but a job that is always done very well. Thank you.
Bozo and Bob behind the Bar, another successful season back at The Nest! A Sunday at Anzac would not be same without the efforts you both put in.
An extra special mention needs to go to Pete Hore. Pete has worked tirelessly this season given the horrible conditions experienced. But on top of ensuring we all have playing fields fit to host games, he has been busy improving the facilities we all enjoy at Anzac Oval. With upgrades to the Men’s change room and canteen completely in addition to his already massive workload at the club. Anyone who has had the pleasure of enjoying these new upgrades this year thanks you Pete.
My final thanks will go to Dave Henson, who has assisted me in my first year as President. Dave’s input in getting our inaugural Shire Premier League squad up and running, even after he had stepped down, was essential. This, as well as countless question from myself, has helped me in this season.
I wish you all the best in the off season and look forward to our great club continuing to progress in future years.
Go the Eagles!!
