W18C Season Report
Having made the semi finals for the past few years but fell short of going that 1 step closer, the team were determined to do whatever it took to put them in the best possible position for the 2023 season.
The return of a previous coach made sure that the girls were on their toes and that fire in their bellies was alive and well.
We welcomed a few new players that gave us the extra edge that we lacked previously such as Gemma, our rock in the central backline who’s game improved out of site throughout the year.
We welcomed Hayley up front who’s supreme goal scoring ability helped us get off to a great start and continue to put the ball in the net throughout the season. With Ash alongside her keeping the defence on their toes and our very good outside midfielders in Lucy and Kay continually pushing forward and Skyla our little youngster who was playing up in her years the girls always had that support they needed to get the ball up front.
Our central midfielders who worked tirelessly and who I believe are 2 of the best in the comp and can both throw the ball further than anyone else of their age were outstanding, well done Mia and Shay, you both showed your experience and game management week in and week out.
I cant forget our other midfielder or perhaps forward or maybe fullback (lets call her our allrounder as we can put her anywhere and know she will do a great job for the team) Ruby, pestering me all year but what would we do without her, WE WILL SEE YOU NEXT SEASON!
Each opposition would scratch their heads in coming up with plans on how to penetrate our outstanding outside backs Maddy and Giselle. Their relentless determination to keep running in defence and I don’t remember a time where I thought I need to sub them off because they were out of steam, they just kept going and going.
If by some chance the opposition did get through we would always breath a sigh of relief in knowing Morgs was there to mop up. As always Morgs was outstanding and never gave up in any situation and WE WILL SEE YOU NEXT SEASON!
We finally had a dedicated goal keeper in Issy who was outstanding between the sticks all year and helped us keep our structure by not having to rotate the girls each week. A massive thankyou Issy for doing what very few are willing to and doing it without hesitation.
I must not forget our Alana Rach. Your support and help goes without saying and I’m just sorry we weren’t able to see you at the end of the year….. perhaps with us being promoted next season we will see you again, I for 1 hope so!
To win more games than any other team and to score 10 more goals than our closest team playing a whole season with only 13 players in 90min matches on a full field is almost unheard of and what you girls achieved was nothing short of amazing.
Only 1 team can claim the Minor premiership and YOU DID IT. In all other countries around the soccer playing world that would mean you were the Champions and in my mind and I’m sure the minds of our fantastic supporters YOU WERE, so hold your heads up high and consider yourselves the winners!
Such a privilege to coach this team of wonderful girls and I thankyou for allowing me to do it again!
